Report from Cardiff Wales Airport Security of a whistling noise heard from the coast at Rhoose. Barry Coastguard investigated, finding that the noise was most likely from the Breaksea Light Buoy. False Alarm with Good intent.

26' Vessel, returning to Swansea following a days fishing at Cardiff, towed into Barry Harbour by Barry Dock Lifeboat. Details taken by Barry Coastguard.

Mayday call from a vessel off Lavernock Point. Extensive search undertaken by Barry Coastguard, Lifeboat teams and RAF Rescue helicopter. Nothing found, believed to be a hoax call.

Report of a missing 15ft fishing boat in the Bristol Channel area, which had launched from the Hayes Slipway. Barry Coastguard tasked while on patrol, finding the vessel 1.5 miles southwest of Hayes Slip. Penarth Lifeboat launched, and Penarth Coastguard tasked.

Report of 2-3 people cut off by the tide at Bendrick Rock. Barry Coastguard tasked to investigate and determine if the people were in difficulty. It was found that they were likely to have been fishing, but due to the strong winds and rough conditions at the time, a watch was kept until it was safe for them to leave the rock.

Report of a small vessel being paddled into Barry Old Harbour. Barry coastguard was tasked to investigate, take details and give advice. It was found that the vessel had broken down off Knap beach, a second engine was used, but this broke down going around Knap point. The two persons on board made it to shore by paddling.

Medivac from Flat Holm of a gentleman with a grass seed in his eye. Penarth Lifeboat brought the casualty into Barry Harbour, where they were met by Barry Coastguard and an Ambulance.

A 60ft Fin Whale was washed ashore on the mud flats near Newport, Gwent. Coastguard teams from Barry, Penarth, Porthcawl, Chepstow and Llantwit Major have kept the carcass under continuous surveillance to prevent people getting too close. The carcass was dismembered on Saturday, before being taken away for incineration.

Report of an aircraft approaching Cardiff Wales Airport with smoke coming out of the back of it. Barry Coastguard investigated, and observed a plane coming in to land with no problems. False alarm with good intent.

Report of person floating in the water at Watch Tower bay, in rough conditions. Barry Coastguard conducted a search of the area and observed a Seal in the surf line. This was likely to be what the first informant saw. False Alarm with good intent.

Report of boy stuck in the mud at the Old Harbour. Barry Coastguard and the Fire Service worked together to extricate the casualty, who was returned home safely by the Police, having been checked over by the Ambulance Service.

Request from Police to assist in the recovery of a female attempting to enter the sea off the end of Knap Point. (Initial reports were of a cliff faller at Jackson's Bay). She was restrained and moved to safety by Police and Barry Coastguard. Barry Dock Lifeboat assisted and light was provided by the Police Helicopter. The casualty was dealt with by Ambulance and Police.

Request from Ambulance service to assist in the recovery of a boy who had fallen from the cliff at Fontygary (approx 10'), and fractured his ankle. Casualty transferred to ambulance by stretcher, and taken to hospital. Coastguard, Ambulance, Fire Service and Air Ambulance were in attendance.

Barry Dock Lifeboat launched to Medivac one male person, from a vessel, with chemicals in his eyes. Barry Coastguard tasked to take details. Ambulance transported the casualty to hospital for observation.

Report from Police of two girls (13 & 17 YO) wanted for questioning, possible hiding on one of the boats in the Old Harbour. Barry Coastguard searched all vessels (as tide was out) but nothing found.

Report of someone calling for help in the Old Harbour. Barry Coastguard checked the area with spotlight and Para flare, nothing seen. Six youths were interviewed on the Island Causeway, who confirmed that someone had been calling for help. Two boat owners were also interviewed, who said it was the youth's on the causeway messing around.

Report from police of a boat floating adrift in No.1 dock, Barry. Barry Coastguard were tasked and located a small rib moored in centre of dock. False alarm with good intent.

Request from Swansea Coastguard to located two Greenpeace rib's that had left the scene of their protest near the Breaksea Lightfloat. Both rib's were located at Penarth Pier.

Report from a ember of the public of an upturned boat at Fontygary (99 steps area). The object was found to be an old freezer. (Barry Dock Lifeboat in attendance, as already launched for ongoing Greenpeace protest). False Alarm with good intent.

Report of a Jet Skier in trouble at the old harbour. The jet ski hit a big wave and the rider was thrown off, with the ski hitting him in his chest. His friends got him ashore but one was injured in process, no medical assistance was required. Barry dock lifeboat launched but was stood down.

Report of Red Flare sighted in the Bendrick's area. Search conducted by Barry Coastguard and Police, concluding that the flare was fired inland.

Report from a member of public of 3 persons cut off by the tide at Sully Island. Barry Coastguard attended, but the people were found to be fishing, and did not require assistance. False alarm with good intent.

While on patrol, Sully Island causeway flooded with 21 persons cut off by the tide. (17 adults, 4 children & 1 dog). All were returned to shore by Penarth Lifeboat and details taken by Barry Coastguard, providing safety advice as required.

While on patrol, Barry Coastguard was flagged down by a member of public, to assist a twelve year old boy who had fallen on Knap Beach. First aid was given by Barry Coastguard, and the boy was taken to hospital by Ambulance with a dislocated elbow and collar bone.

Windsurfer in difficulty off Jackson's Bay, Barry. Returned to shore safely by the Robina Fisk pilot boat.

Report of person possibly swimming from Jackson's Bay, not returned when expected. A thorough search was undertaken by Barry Coastguard, Barry Dock Lifeboat, Police, and Police Helicopter. Nothing found. The person came forward a few hours later, having not been in the water.

Two 13 year old boys were trapped on Sully Island by the incoming tide. Both were returned safely to shore by Penarth Lifeboat.

Report from a member of public of an object (3m in length) on the shore line at Fontygary. Object had been covered by the tide on arrival of Barry Coastguard.

Mayday call from vessel in the Aberthaw area, with engine failure. Barry Dock lifeboat was launched to tow the vessel back to Barry Harbour, which eventually made its way safely to Barry Old Harbour to moor.

Report from South Wales Police of a possible cliff jumper at Fontygary Caravan Park. Extensive search of coastline undertaken by Police helicopter but nothing found. Police Coastguard and Ambulance in attendance.

Two Windsurfers in difficulties at Whitmore Bay. Both made it to shore safely, suffering from the cold conditions. No medical Attention required.

Windsurfer in difficulty off Knap Beach. He managed to get around Knap point, and make it safely to shore at the Old Harbour. Barry Dock lifeboat was put on standby but did not launch. No medical attention was required.

Report of person calling for help from a boat in the Old Harbour. A 16 year old girl, who had been on the boat all night, was recovered by Barry Dock Lifeboat and taken to hospital by Ambulance, suffering from hypothermia.

Report from member of public of a boat observed off Knap beach making an unusual noise. Barry Coastguard attended and found the noise was from a fog horn. False alarm with good intent.
