Report of a missing windsurfer at Cold Knap, Barry. An extensive search was undertaken by Barry Coastguard, Penarth Coastguard, Barry, Penarth and Atlantic College Lifeboats, and Rescue Helicopter 169 from RAF Chivenor. The windsurfer was eventually located by Rescue 169 using thermal imaging cameras, on the Breaksea light ship approx 3.5 miles off the South Wales Coast. His sail had broken away form his board so he swam approx half a mile to the buoy and awaited his rescue. He was extremely lucky that he was able to make it to safety, as his board was found next morning at Weston Super Mare. (News Report)

Request from the ambulance to assist in the recovery of a gentleman that had fallen over at Porthkerry beach/park, and injured his back. Barry coastguard tasked to assist. Due to injuries and nature of terrain, rescue helicopter 169 from RAF Chivenor was tasked to airlift the casualty. The lone person had apparently mistaken Hinckley Point power station for Aberthaw Power station, and was hence on the opposite side of the Bristol channel to expected.
