Report of a dog stuck 10m up a cliff at Jackson's Bay. Barry Coastguard were tasked and recovered the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. RSPCA and the Dog Warden were informed, and attended the call. The dog, who was reported missing in August 2005, was micro chipped and returned to it's owner by the Dog Warden. (Click here for Photo's)

While on patrol, Barry Coastguard came across a Bracken Fire on Sully Island. The Fire Service were called, who decided that the best option was to evacuate the Island and allow the fire to burn out in it's own time. Barry Coastguard assisted in the evacuation and ensured that no one else went onto the island until the causeway flooded. (Photos of the Fire)

Report from a member of the public of an inflatable dinghy with 2 persons aboard drifting out to sea at Whitmore Bay. Barry Coastguard and Barry Dock Lifeboat were tasked to investigate and found the dinghy drifting around Nell's Point. Barry Dock Lifeboat recovered the dinghy and it's occupants (both 18 years old) and took them back to Barry Harbour. Barry Coastguard took details of the casualties and provided advice.

Report of a 10m catamaran broken down in heavy weather, heading for Cardiff having returned from a one year voyage to the Caribbean. The vessel was towed by Ilfracombe Lifeboat, before being transferred to Barry Dock Lifeboat to be towed into Barry Harbour. Barry Coastguard were tasked to take details of the incident and ensure that no medical attention was required.

Report of a missing windsurfer at Cold Knap, Barry. An extensive search was undertaken by Barry Coastguard, Penarth Coastguard, Barry, Penarth and Atlantic College Lifeboats, and Rescue Helicopter 169 from RAF Chivenor. The windsurfer was eventually located by Rescue 169 using thermal imaging cameras, on the Breaksea light ship approx 3.5 miles off the South Wales Coast. His sail had broken away form his board so he swam approx half a mile to the buoy and awaited his rescue. He was extremely lucky that he was able to make it to safety, as his board was found next morning at Weston Super Mare. (News Report)

Request from the ambulance to assist in the recovery of a gentleman that had fallen over at Porthkerry beach/park, and injured his back. Barry coastguard tasked to assist. Due to injuries and nature of terrain, rescue helicopter 169 from RAF Chivenor was tasked to airlift the casualty. Barry coastguard assisted in carrying the casualty on the stretcher, and providing a landing site for the helicopter. (Photos)

Report of a 37ft motor boat lost in the Bristol Channel. The lone person had apparently mistaken Hinckley Point power station for Aberthaw Power station, and was hence on the opposite side of the Bristol channel to expected. Barry Dock lifeboat was launched and brought the vessel into Barry Harbour. Barry Coastguard tasked to take details and provide advice to the skipper.

Report while on Patrol from Swansea Coastguard of two children stuck in the mud at the Old Harbour with their bikes. The Fire Brigade, who were already on scene with Ambulance and Police, successfully rescued the children, who then taken home by the police. Barry Coastguard took details and continued their Patrol.
